Methodological Issues (Cardiff University)
Abstract
This project will critically and empirically address the methodological implications of archiving, distributing and
sharing multimedia qualitative datasets. There have been few explicit attempts to consider the consequences of qualitative
data sharing for research design and methodological decision making. This project will consider the possibilities and
methodological challenges of archiving and (re)presenting substantive qualitative research that exploits the full
possibilities of contemporary information and communication technologies. To achieve this, the project will take a number
of methodological issues, and seek to construct web based interactive user guides for qualitative data archiving and sharing.
The project will draw on the team's experience of digital qualitative work, and will use an existing multimedia qualitative
dataset to develop and test protocols, tools and guidance for providing resources for the effective, integrated and ethical
archiving and distribution of qualitative data records. The project will be based at the Cardiff School of Social Sciences,
and will involve an active collaboration with ESDS Qualidata.
