        factual things first of all do you mind my asking how old you
        are?</u>

      <u who="#subject" xml:id="u2"> 49.</u>

      <u who="#interviewer" xml:id="u3"> And what schools did you go
        to?</u>

      <u who="#subject" xml:id="u4">
        <orgName>King Street</orgName>, <orgName>Woodside</orgName>
        and <orgName>Hilton</orgName>.</u>

      <u who="#interviewer" xml:id="u5"> Uh-huh .. and how old were
        you when you left the school?</u>

      <u who="#subject" xml:id="u6"> 14.</u>

      <u who="#interviewer" xml:id="u7"> And you work at the moment?
        What sort of work do you do?</u>

      <u who="#subject" xml:id="u8"> Well I've gone back to get
        shorter hours, I've went back to domestic, which I dinna
        really care for. But then I used to be in the pharmacy
        department at <orgName>ARI</orgName> ... just <seg
          type="occupation">pharmacy assistant</seg>>. At least it was
        better than cleanin'! But then they've nae part-time workers
        there so..</u>

      <u who="#interviewer" xml:id="u9"> And did you work in the
        pharmacy long?</u>

      <u who="#subject" xml:id="u10"> I was there for eleven years.</u>

      <u who="#interviewer" xml:id="u11"> And did you have any other
        sort of jobs?</u>

      <u who="#subject" xml:id="u12"> Where? Since I left school,
        like? Well, when I first left school I was just a <seg
          type="occupation">shop assistant</seg>> in a number of shops
        like <orgName>Reid</orgName> and <orgName>Pearsons</orgName>,
        which is.. we hinna got it ony mair.</u>

      <u who="#interviewer" xml:id="u13"> Gone ..!</u>

      <u who="#subject" xml:id="u14">
        <orgName>Marks and Spencers</orgName>, and the
        <orgName>Coop</orgName>. And that's aboot it.</u>

      <u who="#interviewer" xml:id="u15"> Uh-huh .. and then you got
        married and had your family. And when you went back to work,
        did you go into the pharmacy?</u>

      <u who="#subject" xml:id="u16"> No, you see, I wis widowed
        early, ken? My boy, he was just seventeen days when I was
        widowed so, I waited till he was about two an a half afore I
        got him into a nursery an then went back to start ...that's
        when I started <orgName>Marks an Spencers</orgName>. An then I
        remarried when Graham was about two and a half. So I've just
        worked since then. I've stopped for ten months.</u>

      <u who="#interviewer" xml:id="u17"> And what sort of work does
        your husband do?</u>

      <u who="#subject" xml:id="u18"> He's a maintenance, like a <seg
          type="occupation">scaffolder</seg>>. The maintenance side of
        Mugiemoss.</u>

      <u who="#interviewer" xml:id="u19"> And what sort of work did
        your first husband do?</u>

      <u who="#subject" xml:id="u20"> He was like a <seg
          type="occupation">riveter's</seg>>.. he was a, ken, it's
        rivetin ... you could just say a riveter, ken, it's just much
        the same.</u>

      <u who="#interviewer" xml:id="u21"> Yes, and your present
        husband, has he done that sort of work for a while?</u>

      <u who="#subject" xml:id="u22"> Oh aye. Mostly he's just a <seg
          type="occupation">labourer</seg>> really. He used to be in
        the buildin, ken, but then since he went doon there it's a wee
        bitie more skill in it, ken. He quite likes it.</u>

      <u who="#interviewer" xml:id="u23"> Aye, it's always more
        responsibility.</u>

      <u who="#subject" xml:id="u24"> That's right, oh yes.</u>

      <u who="#interviewer" xml:id="u25"> And how many of a family
        have you had?</u>

      <u who="#subject" xml:id="u26"> Two.</u>

      <u who="#interviewer" xml:id="u27"> Is it a boy and a girl?</u>

      <u who="#subject" xml:id="u28"> And have you lived here for a
        while? In your present house</u>

      <u who="#interviewer" xml:id="u29"> Here?
